In 2025, TUNBEE secured a significant contract to supply environmentally sustainable building materials for the Saudi Red Sea tourism megaproject, one of the world’s largest and most ambitious luxury resort developments. The project covers 28,000 square kilometers, spanning over 200 kilometers of coastline and 90 islands, with 22 islands designated for development as luxury tourism destinations and the remainder preserved as nature reserves. The master plan includes 50 hotels and over 1,000 residential units.
TUNBEE’s scope of supply focused on green building materials for the resort’s construction, including sustainable wood products, low-carbon facade materials, eco-friendly flooring solutions and energy-efficient building systems. The project’s commitment to sustainability is exceptional—one of the resorts within the development is set to become the world’s first hotel complex to achieve both LEED Platinum and WELL certifications for a bamboo-structured building complex.
The materials supplied by TUNBEE had to meet the project’s rigorous environmental standards. All wood products were required to be FSC-certified or sourced from rapidly renewable bamboo plantations. The facade materials needed to demonstrate significant reductions in embodied carbon while maintaining the durability required for the region’s harsh desert climate. TUNBEE sourced these materials from certified Guangdong manufacturers with proven export capability and international sustainability certifications.
Logistics for this project required careful planning. The materials had to be shipped from Guangzhou to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, with customs clearance coordinated for both Chinese export and Saudi import requirements. TUNBEE managed the entire international logistics chain, including warehousing, cargo consolidation, sea freight and destination delivery, ensuring that materials arrived on-site in perfect condition and according to the construction schedule.
The project reflects a broader trend in China’s building material exports: the transition from volume-driven to value-driven exports, with increasing emphasis on green, sustainable and high-performance products.
